James Briggs

Founder & Creative Director

James brings nearly 20 years experience in creative writing, media relations, corporate positioning, executive visibility, and brand management to his role as Co-Founder and Strategic Director at Carroway + Rose. In his position, James manages and executes integrated communications campaigns that incorporate public relations, marketing and social media for clients and leads the strategic development and business growth of the agency.

Prior to co-founding Carroway + Rose, James worked for award winning agencies in New York City, Chicago, Charleston and Santa Fe, where his experience extended across multiple business sectors including real estate, healthcare, travel & tourism, and financial services. He has been responsible for directing public relations programs for some of the country’s leading brands, including Pfizer, GE, Johnson & Johnson, Wells Fargo, AT&T, Abbott Laboratories, SCHOTT Solar, Scottrade, Duke University and The Bank of New York. He has also taken a leading role in progressing the communications aims for several art museums and foundations, including the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, The Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, The Art Institute of Chicago and dozens of local galleries across the country in a variety of mediums. He has secured national placements for clients in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, Conde Nast Traveler, Garden & Gun Magazine, Southern Home, The Economist, Architectural Digest and Golf World, in addition to dozens of regional newspapers and outlets.

A native South Carolinian, James graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Master’s degree in Government and International Studies and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Clemson University and continues to support several non-profit organizations in his home state including the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Lowcountry Lab Rescue and Spoleto Festival USA. He is also member of the Chairman’s Circle of the Irish-American Cultural Institute.

With over 20 years planning successful public relations initiatives for clients, Phil is well positioned to advise our firm on best practices and management matters.

Phil has secured celebrity appearances for Meade Electric Company’s 110-year anniversary celebration, directed fundraising for the “Save Our Seniors” non-profit organization and executed a high-profile public relations campaign for the Childress and Zdeb law firm in their fight to defend victims of water damage.  Phil has provided innovative and effective strategic consultation to numerous other clients including U.S Congressmen, State Legislators, Mayors, Aldermen, Judges, County Board Members Fortune 500 companies, non-profit organizations and law firms.

Phil has a Bachelor of Arts, in Political Science from DePaul University and has completed studies at the Moscow Institute for Advanced Studies, the J.F.K. Special Warfare College and the Ron Brown-Paul Tully Institute for Political Action.  He has been a guest speaker for Campaigns and Elections Magazine, DePaul University, Carthage College and other educational organizations. He is a member of the American Association of Political Consultants and the Chicago Chamber of Commerce. Phil has provided commentary on public affairs, crisis communications and public relations to major media outlets including the L.A. Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, Capitol Fax, and the ABA journal.
